Funny you should post that image with that title. As I was watching the eclipse approach totality with my daughter, most of Luna in shadow except for a bright sliver at the upper right, I commented that it was like a close-up view of Mars with an exagerrated polar ice cap.

It was striking how much it resembled the common images of Mars.
I wish I had thought to buy a telephoto lens, though. Live and learn.
