More Bruce in the News

He was out of sight for several months, but now he’s everywhere:
Rocking the boat, an interview with Bruce Gagnon.

I intended to give this article a thorough fisking, but I don’t think that even I am up to the task — there’s just too much misrepresentation, self-serving propagandizing, moral equivalence drawing, paranoia, and general asshattery for one blogger to tackle.

And that’s just in the intro paragraphs.

Eeesh.

  • Good grief! I actually read the whole thing. The ending is especially stupid: “…we’re wasting money on capital-intensive programs that do nothing, they put nothing back into the society. You can’t read or eat or sleep in an Aegis destroyer.”

Obviously, they are being built for something. He really believes that self-defense does “nothing?” Pfish.

And as for not being able to “read or eat or sleep in an Aegis destroyer…” The fact that he thinks it’s true is proof he’s never tried. Why do people listen to this guy?

    *grumbles*

  • I prefer to think that they don’t. Listen to him, that is.

That quote gave me a good laugh…”capital intensive programs”? I could see this guy, back in agrarian days, whining about why a big chunk of the harvest was stored up and not eaten. “Seed corn? We’re wasting food that could otherwise feed our starving neighbors!”

Remember, you can’t read or eat or sleep in seed corn.

Mr. Gagnon is quoted as saying that he worries about the “headling collision between people’s needs here on the planet” and “this notion that we’ve got to have security of the skies above our heads.” You can be sure that Mr. Gagnon and his ilk were thoroughly disgusted by our quick, overwhelming and casualty-limited victories in Afghanistan and Iraq, which were largely made possible by that security. Morons.
