Reader Victor Atkins points out that the “space pen” legend cited in the title for this post is, in fact, an urban legend. As Snopes points out, however, the story is useful as a cautionary tale against the kind of thinking demonstrated in the subject of the post…it’s too bad there isn’t a true story (or one so widely known) that makes the same point.
