Lampson Bill Redux

Rep. Nick Lampson has reintroduced his Space Exploration Act.

I previously commented on the Act here. It sounds fairly good, but could use some tweaking.

  • The act should include initiating a competition on the lines of the X-prize open to all private companies to build and launch a Saturn V style HLLV with no more than five Lox/Kerosene engines generating at least 7.5 Million pounds of liftoff thrust! The first two stages must be reusable and the vehicle must land three men on the Moon and return them to Earth safetly. This must be done twice. The time period between the landing of the first flight and the launch of the second must not be greater than one month. The winner would receive 1 Billion dollars!

Dominic, please give it a rest.

Mars society of Houston members met with a member of Lampson’s staff earlier today. He was very knowledgable and enthusiastic about the space program in general, but not so much about the Mars Society’s efforts. I think we made a really strong impression. In the next month or so Lampson would like to host a “town hall” meeting on the future of our space program, probably very near NASA. We’ll be there in force.
